WTF Mother Nature? [07 Jan 2008|03:28pm]
It should not be 58 degrees and raining in January!  I want to go ice skating.  I bought skates and everything, and now I can't go because it isn't winter anymore!  Isn't January supposed to be the coldest month of the year?

Winter Fun [05 Dec 2006|08:48pm]

Hardwood stairs and socks do not a good combination make. OW! I just fell down the stairs in my house... again. Damn, those stairs can be tricky. My elbow is now made of pain. And I knocked out one of the spindles of the railing. That is one place that I miss carpet.

The game of "hooker/not a hooker is a whole lot less interesting when they're walking out into the street and waving at the cars as they drive by. Seriously, the amount of activity on my block at four in the morning is getting out of hand. First there's the hookers and their pimps hanging out at the corner, sitting on the bench that is most emphatically NOT a bus-stop anymore, since the construction started. Then there's the assorted men walking around, stopping to pull a black shirt on over the white ones they're already wearing, probably so that if the cops see them they can pull it off again to change their appearance. To top it off, there's the guy sitting in the car across the street for an hour, getting out every now and then to most likely do drug deals with the people who pull up in front of him. I do believe I live in a "crime containment area". That, or they all just have some strange affinity for my particular block. It's good entertainment, at any rate.

WTF? [10 Aug 2006|01:05pm]
Alright, normally I love libraries. They are useful, and contain books, which I am in love with. However, I think it's a bit underhanded and sneaky to recall a book in the middle of summer vacation, while people are out of town, busy, or just feel no real need to check their U of M e-mail because NOTHING IS HAPPENING! Now, all of a sudden I get a letter from the collections and fines people, and it turns out that I currently owe the University one hundred and ten dollars?!? Alright, I know I have a lot of books out, but NONE OF THEM WERE SUPPOSED TO BE DUE UNTIL SEPTEMBER! Apparently, one of them was recalled in July, and since I didn't return it within five days WHILE I WAS OUT OF TOWN they have assumed that the book is lost, and assigned me a replacement fee. This is absurd. I know nobody needs this book right now in the middle of the summer. It's an abscure book about the arts of India, and if they needed that one, they probably would have recalled some of the others I have out as well. No, I think it's just the library wanting the book back so they can do some sort of summer inventory. Don't tell me I can keep books for so long if you don't mean it! Hopefully when I go in and inform them that said book is not, in fact, lost, the huge fine will go away. Otherwise, fuck.

dead tired [07 Jun 2006|12:59am]
[ mood | exhausted ]

Sixteen hours of work is a VERY LONG DAY! Especially when the majority of it is physical labor, pushing around cases of gear that weigh up to five times as much as I do, and carrying around shit, and lifting truss, and hanging instruments. I think my internship is going to be my summer work out plan. My arms feel dead. And I have to work at eight thirty tomorrow morning. I don't know if I really like this whole "being a productive member of society" thing. But on the plus side, they pay me. So I guess it's not all bad. And it sure beats flipping burgers. Anyway, I think I'm going to crash now.

OMG EWWW!!!!! [04 Jun 2006|11:56pm]
Alright, normally I am not one to get creeped out by the small residents of my house of the creepy-crawly variety. I do not scream at the sight of a mouse, or freak out about the rather large insects flying about my room. However, even I have limits. Today, I discovered a rather large spider in a small web in my bath towel, AFTER USING SAID TOWEL TO DRY OFF FROM MY SHOWER!!!! That was it. That was past my threshold of tolerance. I freaked out. I am ok with sharing my living space with spiders, however I am most definitely NOT ok with the possibility of them becoming intimately acquainted with my hair, or anywhere else on my person. So, this is a message to all the spiders, and other uninvited residents of my home: I will let you be, however, if you intrude on my personal space to much, such as living in my towel, I WILL kill you. You have been warned.

An honest plea to dear old mother nature [14 Sep 2005|12:16pm]
WHY CAN'T YOU MAKE UP YOUR GODDAMN MIND????
Seriously, one day it's raining when I leave, by the time I'm done with my first class the sun is shining and I'm stuck with my raincoat all day. Another day this week it was pretty cold when I left, so I wore long sleeves. Then it got up to about 90 degrees and I was sweltering all day. Just yesterday, it was nice and sunny when I left, looking like it was going to become a beautiful day, so I decided to wear a tank top. Not even half way into my first class of the day, it became cloudy and cold and I had to shiver all day until I could go home and get some more clothes. Let me just make this clear, I do not really mind any of this weather all that much, I just want to have a little notice on what the weather will be. I do not want to have to keep an entire wardrobe in my backpack just to be able to be comfortable during the school day.

Anyway, on to more interesting topics than the weather. In puppetry today, we made puppets out of newspapers and plastic bags. And, of course, tape. I mean really, what can you make without tape? That was a lot of fun, especially considering that this is a CLASS and I get CREDIT for it. I cannot believe that they are giving me credit to do the kind of playing I did as a child. Gotta love that arts major. I can bet I had a lot more fun in class today than the physics majors did.

P.S. When I'm done with this show that is eating all of my time (as shows tend to do) we need to have a party or something before I get too busy with the next one.

I HATE MY VCR!!!! [26 May 2005|12:16pm]
Is it too much to ask, really, that when you program a VCR to tape a certain show, by typing in the special code for that show, that it should, in fact, record the entire thing? Honestly, is this just above and beyond the call of duty for a VCR? I DON'T THINK SO!! In fact, I think that that is it's ONLY duty and it should damn well be cabable of it.
I wanted to watch the season finale of LOST and I had to work last night, so I left it all in the trust of my VCR and it STOPPED RECORDING IN THE LAST SECONDS OF THE SHOW!! The entire episode, the entire season builds up to this moment, they finally get the hatch open, the camera starts to move down into it, and then BLUE SCREEN. NO MORE TAPE!!! ARGHHHHHH!!!!! Someone, anyone, please, please, PLEASE tell me if we found out what was inside the hatch.

Hey all. I've really been neglecting this thing.
Anyway, it's the end of spring break, and I am BORED. People need to come back here so I can hang out with them. I have nothing to do by myself. I am also HUNGRY because UDS is closed for break. Oh well, at least I had a week off of classes, which was extremely nice.
I'm going to be going to the opera (Aida) tomorrow at the state, cause I got a comp ticket through work. That should be exciting, but extrodinarily long (four acts!) Anyway, not much else going on.

(Lion King is coming!)

well.... [13 Dec 2004|02:58pm]
[ mood | lazy ]

I suppose I could think about updating this once in a while. It's been kind of a long time. This semester has involved entirely too much work and stress for my liking. Thankfully, it's almost over, which also means that everything needs to be done THIS WEEK!!!!! So much to do, so very little time to do it in. Break should be nice, except that everyone is leaving me and going home. But then, that also means that everyone from Hill is coming back, so hopefully I'll have the chance to catch up with some of them.
Classes end on Wednesday!!! Then it's a long weekend until finals on Monday. So, guesses on what I'll be doing on Thursday? Studying? No. Laundry? No. Cleaning my disaster of a room and beginning to pack for break? No. Washing dishes and cleaning out the fridge? No. Wasting loads of time doing absolutely nothing? Exactly. Now, wish me luck with my paper tonight, because I have no idea whatsoever what I'm writing about.

Banned Books Week [30 Sep 2004|01:08am]

In honor of it being Banned Books week, I am including a list of some of the silliest "controversial" books for your amusement.

  • American Heritage Dictionary

Banned for content of "objectionable" slang definitions.  It's a dictionary.  It's supposed to define words in the ways that people use them.

  • 1984
  • Fahrenheit 451
  • The Giver

Some of my personal favorites.  Banning books about censorship and control...

  • The Odyssey
  • Lysistrata
  • Canterbury Tales

Acceptable many years ago, but apparently to obscene now...

  • Harry Potter

Come on... it's just a made up story.

  • Twelfth Night, The Merchant of Venice, Hamlet, Macbeth, King Lear, Romeo and Juliet, Richard II

Shakespeare isn't okay for a school library?

  • Little Red Riding Hood

Apparently controversial because she carries a bottle of wine to her grandmother.

That's it for now for my book list, but along the same lines, I found a very disturbing article about censorship in schools, this one relating to freedom of speech, and discrimination.  You can read the whole article here.

Computers are the devil [07 Sep 2004|03:08pm]
So, I've tried all kinds of things to get my computer to dial up to the internet, and nothing works. I'm afraid I may need to reinstall Windows. Crud. Hopefully, it will connect through resnet, once I get registered. Then I can procrastinate with the reinstalling. I hate computers.

Why do I have all this crap? [03 Sep 2004|11:59pm]
[ mood | aggravated ]

So, I've finally begun to pack all of my stuff, along with cleaning my room.  It's taking forever.  It doesn't help that every five minutes I find something that I forgot I had, and have to look through it.  Last night I found a journal I was forced to write in every day for class senior year.  So, naturally I had to waste time reading through every single entry.  Arghh.  This is going to take forever.

In other news, my computer is broken somehow, and I don't know how to fix it.  I turned it on the other day, and some weird message pops up.  I figured it was just some stupid spyware, closed it, and proceeded on with my task of connecting to the internet.  Everything looks ok, it tells me I'm connected, but what's this?  It can't find the server for my e-mail?  Or for web pages?  And AIM isn't connecting?  Methinks I'm not connected to the internet.  But it says I am.  At this point I give up, shut it down and start over (one of my most effective methods of solving computer problems).  But no, the same thing happens again.  So now, my laptop doesn't work, and I'm stuck typing this on my family's computer.  I don't know what I'm going to do back at school, I really need to get it fixed.

Well, one more day, and then I move in Sunday.  I should probably get back to work.

ARRGGHHH! [31 Aug 2004|11:35pm]
[ mood | tired ]

I just wrote an entire entry, but when I tried to update, it got lost in cyberspace. That makes me mad.
Anyway, I can't believe I'm twenty now. That sounds so old. I'm not ready to be an adult yet!
Working nine hour days two days in a row right after having to strike a show is not good for energy levels. Especially when you don't get enough sleep ever. Today at work I was so tired that I started getting really shaky toward the end of the day. It was not good at all. Of course, it wasn't helped by the fact that I drank four shots of esspresso and hadn't eaten anything real, either.
I also got to see one of my childhood friends today. He stopped in at my work so he could see me, cause he left tonight to go to basic training. He's going to be a combat medic. We were both so busy, we couldn't get together before. I was glad I got to see him before he left. Hopefully he'll write me while he's gone.
Well, we start school in a week. I'm excited to move back, but do we really have to go to class? You know, school would be a lot better if we didn't have to do work.
